Weather on the Island of Roatan

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

Hi everyone, our warm October has now begun to turn into our cooler November. On Tuesday we had our first “Northerner”. For those not familiar with Roatan’s weather this is a frontal passage that sweeps down from the U.S. through the Gulf of Mexico and into the western Caribbean. Usually these fronts approach with big rain storms and pass through leaving cooler temperatures and blue sky. Such was the case with this first one of the season.

On Tuesday night it started raining and dumped enough to overflow my 6″ rain gauge. Then from Wednesday morning to Thursday morning we had another 3″ of rain. Now the weather is picture perfect with blue sky and fluffy clouds and a westerly breeze at 80 degrees Fahrenheit. This is one of my favorite times of the year on the island.

French Harbor Medical Clinic Dedication

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

I wanted to briefly chat about the opening of this wonderful new clinic in French Harbor. Little Friends Foundation was established to improve the standards of health care throughout Roatan and I am sure they will be a great asset to our community. This project has been a true labor of love for Kandy Hyde and the board of directors that has succeeded in renovating and opening this new clinic.

The dedication service was held on Friday Oct 19th with approximately 100 people and distinguished guests like Dale Jackson (the mayor) in attendance.

New Shopping Center for Roatan

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Those of you who live on Roatan have probably seen the sign on the main road in Mt. Pleasant advertising the new Mega Plaza shopping center, it’s hard to miss their sign. Those who haven’t been here for a while will be surprised to see the how quickly the work is proceeding.Rendering Lateral Derecho

Mega Plaza is offering 3 Anchor stores, 46 retail locations and 8 restaurant locations. Two of the anchor stores will be Carrion and Supermercado Mega a large grocery store, the third anchor has not yet been determined. Additionally three restaurant positions have been taken with Wendy’s, Pizza Hut and Applebees having chosen locations in the Plaza. Two banks Atlantida and Continental will also be opening branches in the Plaza.

The plan from Mega Plaza is to be open for business by December of 2008 so Christmas shopping next year won’t mean trips to the main land. If you would like more information on Mega Plaza please send me an email.
